Carriers charge by whichever is greater: your parcel's actual weight or its volumetric (dimensional) weight. This tool works out both, picks the billable weight, and estimates the cost for each channel you set up.
How volumetric weight works
Volumetric weight (kg) = L × W × H (cm) ÷ divisor
A large but light parcel takes up space a carrier could have sold to someone else, so it's priced on volume instead of mass. The divisor sets how generous that conversion is — a smaller divisor means a higher volumetric weight.

This calculator computes in centimetres and kilograms. When you switch to inches and pounds, dimensions are converted to centimetres first, so keep using the cm³/kg divisor (for example 5000).
FAQ
It's the weight your carrier actually charges for: the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight, usually rounded up to the next 0.5 kg or 1 kg. This tool shows which one wins and rounds it for you.
Use the one your carrier states. International air express is typically 5000, economy and postal services often 6000, and some consolidators use 8000. If you're not sure, ask your forwarder or check the rate card.
Each channel uses either a "first weight + additional" model (a set price for the first portion, then a price for each extra step) or a flat "per kg" model with an optional base fee. The cost is based on the billable weight and multiplied by your quantity.
Light, bulky parcels favour channels with a larger divisor, while dense parcels favour lower per-kg rates. The "Compare channels" list re-ranks every option for your exact package.
